Hi Kimberly, About 25 years ago I had an interest in the macrobiotics. It was really for health reasons. It is a very low fat diet I believe 10% of the diet. Consisting of miso soup ,brown rice very little meat and a number of Japanese dishes . I found it pretty difficult and expensive to follow. I had purchased several books on it and was fascinated at the fact that it claimed to heal cancer and other difficult to treat diseases. Recently I read up on it in wikepedia and it claims that Michio Kushi a teacher and author of the books I had purchased actually had colon cancer later and that his wife and daughter had died of cancer as well. His wife also was a practitioner of the macrobiotic philosophy. I know that Madonna is a practitioner which led me to take a second look.

Hi, I learned macrobiotics in the 1980's when my wife was very ill. She got all better and we went on to raised a beautiful son now aged 24! Macrobiotics is not so easy to learn as it is very far from the mainstream. It is still at the center of my diet and I have been blessed no medical bill in the last forty years. My favorite introductory book is titled: The Self Healing Cookbook : A Macrobiotic Primer for Healing Body, Mind and Moods With Whole, Natural Foods by Kristine Turner. There is also a vibrant educational center in Philadelphia at: http://strengthenhealth.org/ . As for the Kushi's there is a lot to know and consider about these wonderful people who have helped so many.
