My water tank pressure switch keeps kicking on and off when it recycles.
It recycles normallly kicking on at 20 lbs and off at 40 lbs. When it kicks on at 20 it kicks on and off causing the capacitor to get hot

This more than likely is because your expansion tank pressure is low in air or the bladder in it it shot. Use a tire gage and check the pressure. Since your low kick in is at 20 the tank should be 2 lbs lower then what the pressure switch is set at. Or 2lbs less then its cutoff 38lbs tank at 40 on pressure gage. If the tank is pressure right and it still quick cycles then check the tank bladder. At the correct pressure on tank now lets check tank Tap at the bottom and keep tapping to the top of the tank. It should sound hollow half way up. If not the bladder in the tank is shot. Another indication for low pressure in tank or the bladder is shot is when the well pumps the gage jumps around trying to bring up the pressure
You have what is called Quick cycle

Sounds like a pressure tank problem. Shut power off to well, drain all pressure off lines. Then there should be a stem at the top of pressure tank that you can put a tire gauge on. Let me know what it reads. If you push in the center of this, and water comes out, you will need a new tank. Please let me know what you find. Also, would be good to know what type of pressure tank you have(bladder, or galvinized). Either way, you most likely have a problem with tank or switch. We will get this figured out, just need some hands on help from you.
