We recently had a pipe break in the water line to our street and went without water for a few hours. Upon receiving adequate water pressure, our water heater began to leak from the pressure relief valve. We haven't had any such difficulties so I assume the two events are related. Will it stop leaking on its own or should I cycle the valve open and closed to remove the hiccup? Any advice would be appreciated!

Try to recycle the T&P valve a few time and see if it will help, if not check the water pressure it should be 40 to 65 psi and check the water heater gas valve for proper setting, if every thing is OK I will suggest to change the T&P. good luck.

Ask the city water dept how much water pressure you are getting or test yourself by outting a gauge on the outside spigot. When your line was replaced yopur psi may be much higher than with the old line, if so you can install a PRV to bring the pressure down to about 45 psi.
