I have a maytag washer that is 2 years old. It has started to make a loud squeaky noise when agitating in the wash and rinse cycle. Can you please tell me what is making this noise and how can I fix the problem? Thanks, Spookyboy

Hi spooky,

Can we know the model number? Is it top loading or front loading?

Tnx,

Hi drcool1299,
It is a top loader and the only model # I have is MAV*e-star series. I got the book wet and can not read any other numbers. Is there somewhere else I need to look for a model #. Thanks for your response. spookyboy

Hi again spooky,

Well, since we don't have a model number, I would just be speculating then.

Noise while agitating could come from the simple loose bolt at the center of the agitator assembly. The bolt could have come loose and the plastic agitator would brake its spline and would create some noise while agitating.

Another piece to check is the basket drive block. It is a big piece of metal that is at the center that holds the big drum in place. In the long time it is being used, sometimes they get worn and needs to be replaced. They do make some noises too.

Then the last thing to look at is the gear box.

Any worn gear or broken bushings would create a lot of noise.

We tore apart the machine today and could not find any loose bolts, but when the front of the machine was off, we did notice while running a load of clothes through, that the noise is made when in the wash cycle and agitating, the inside drum is moving and making the noise. Shouldn't that drum be still? And while looking at the back of machine the model # was listed.. MAV5758EWW. Had the agitator off and tighten bolt some, but was not really loose and also looked at the belt , but could not find any adjustment there. Any more suggestions? Thanks for your attention to all my questions.
