The water won't stay in my toilet bowl. What causes this?

The water wont stay in my toilet bowl. What causes this?
We need a few more details. Does the bowl empty with each flush or does it take some time for the bowl to lose water? If it takes time , how long? Does it lose all the water or just part of it? Any noise connected with this? Back to you, Tom

It sounds like the flapper valve is leaking, place some food coloring in the toilet tank, after an hour or so check if dye showed up in the toilet BOWLS then you will know for sure that the flapper valve is defective and needs to be replaced.

Very unlikely that a defective flapper or flush valve would cause the TOILET BOWL to empty periodically... ;)

Most likely it is going to be that there is a porcelain plug that has gone defective in the bowl itself or could even be that there is something caught in the trap of the toilet bowl and is actually SIPHONING the toilet bowl over time.

Sorry I pull the gun very quickly didn't pay attention I read it as the toilet tank, didn't pay attention to the BOWL yes I agree with you thanks for catching it.

Swamp, does thye bowl drain every time you flush at approximately the same speed? If so I'd go with Mark's first thought about a bad patch. If the draining is different each time I'd think a clogged vent is causing a vac and siphoning. Mark got them both covered.
