Does anyone out there knows where I can find a 4" spud (plumbers) wrench?

I found them at "www.azpartsmasters.com" They were $ 9.89 had up to 4" capacity. Sorry I wasn't able to copy the link but that's the address.

Nope!! Westnlas gave you a link to a 4 in 1 spud wrench,(see image) but they only have a capacity of a little over two inches. I know of no spud wrench that opens up to four inches. However, there is a adjustable spanner wrench,(see image) that will fit that 4" nut. They are pricey at almost 75 bucks but then you're asking for a special tool. I'm trying to get to a 4" plastic nut that tightens my shower drain. Have to get between a couple floor joists, no crawl space to work in, had to excavate from outside the shack just to see the darn thing. Pipe wrenches, strap wrenches, etc. will not work, nut is way up between the joists, need a tool that will work vertically. Thanks for reply,

You're asking fror a 4" basin wrench,(see image) and I don't believe they make such a wrench. Can you get a sharp wood chisel in there to split the nut and peel it out? Regards, Tom

Good idea. Still be a very tight fit and how would I tighten the new nut? This (ha) job (haha) is driving me crazy (hahahaha). Have been thinking of high explosives (wheee, hahahaha)

Plumb, the rule of thumb is if someone can put it together someone else can take it apart. That PVC nut may have been installed on the drain before the pan was set and then the drain pipe was glued with a connector. Can you just cut the drain line and then splice in a new piece?

So SORRY guys. I hope you can excuse my typo. I only have one hand that works and sometimes don't spend enough time proofreading all the mistakes. Like I said, couldn't get the link to paste, but will try and be more careful in the future. I am quite sure the one I saw was 4" capacity though. Why don't you take a piece of 1/2 " square stock a couple of feet long and cut a slot in one end that a strap will slide into. Use a ratchet in the other end as a drive tool ? It's a cheap home made strap wrench that might do the trick getting the old nut off and putting it back. I would use a piece of nylon strap about 3/4-1 inch wide. Probably have something like that laying around or at the fabric section of Wal-Mart.

I think I found the solution to my problem (leaking shower drain) at Plumb-Rite's Wingtite. "Replace the Drain, Not the Whole Shower (http://www.plumbrite.com). This outfit makes a unique shower drain that I believe will work. I tried twice last year to replace the conventional drain, much use of plumbers putty and silicone, just couldn't get the 4" nut on the underside of the drain to tighten enough.

I am glad you got it. To tell the truth, I just love bouncing ideas around. I made a lot of my own tools and jigs, etc when I was working and like solving problems. It's great you solved this one.
