Hello,
I need to amend by 2004 tax return -- is that possible since it is past 3 years since the file date? There were a few items that I did not include as deductions that I am able to claim.

Depends on when you filed your 2004 form and paid your tax for that year - you may be able to file an amended return using form 1040X, but per the IRS:

Generally, to claim a refund, the Form 1040X must be received within three years after the date you filed your original return or within two years after the date you paid the tax, whichever is later.

So if you filed your 2004 tax return by the April 2005 deadline it's now too late to amend it. But if you had an extension for your 2004 tax filing you may still have some time to get the amended form in befoe the deadline.

You can file your amended 2004 tax return but you will not get any refund. The due date was April 15, 2008 irrespective of if you applied for extension or not.

When did you file it? It typically takes 6-8 weeks to process.
