I hope that I am not in too much trouble. I failed to file my IL state taxes last year. I have filed every year and last year,, well, I never sent it out. I found it about 6 months ago. . I had a refund due of 68.00. Now this year I owe state taxes. I had little taken out from state during the year, so my taxes include a penalty as well. I am ready to file but what happens since I did not file last year? Since the state owed me, and I failed to file what happens: Can I file an now? Will I have a penalty fee?

Missyc:

Mail the IL state return.

Because you have a refund coming, you will pay no penalty.

In fact, you may even get some interest on the refund (maybe a dollar or two)!

Thank you, OK, I will send both years.. I wanted to make sure that I would not have to pay a penalty for 04 as well.
