great exchange of ideas... just wanted to say that the idea of Japan being a culturally homogenous society can be challenged:

Multicultural Japan:

Real Culture is what we have. Idea culture is subjective and unattainable.

Ideal culture: something you see in a museum display and what would be associated with that.

Real culture: LIVED culture. Exists in everyday life.
