I'm just curious about the significance of everyone's usernames and avatars, if you have an avatar. For me, my username is orange because orange is my favorite color and also my favorite fruit. :) My avatar is a painting I did for a friend, of her cat that died a while back.

My user name is crankiebabie. When my 5 yearold starts in with her sulking I tickle her so she will cheer up and tell her "dont be such a cranky baby" or when she pouts I say "there goes that cranky baby." My avatar I like to dress up and change her hair and all that. Im trying to find a new one that is a little different from that one.

I go the simple route on username: My first name and last initial.

My avatars change occasionally, but represent things I'm into.

My ID name is my first name and last initial also.
Don't have an avatar, but thinking about it.

My username is a construction of my first name and a play on my last name.

I use an avatar on other sites, but not here. For a variety of reasons.

I have used Fr Chuck (my name ) since the early days of Askme.com so many years ago. It was and is also my email address from the very early days of hotmail [email protected]

I am fairly well known around the question and answer sites using this name. Although I became a Bishop some years ago, most people stll callme either Fr Chuck or Brother Chuck since that is what I have went by for 30 years

It would stand for Father Chuck, I was a religious brother for about 5 years and then a priest for over 20 years. ( a worker priest according to the rules of my order)

I am now a Bishop, but after all these years, most everone in real life still calls me Brother anyway, so I see no reason to change.

Although for official emails I do have the Bishop title used

Mine is so easy to get what it means is not even fair, when I hand out my email address which is [email protected] and I am proud to say I have had for like 5 years, which for teens is a big feat, but if you can't figure it out, wizzkid is not a nickname, but rather something that developed when I was figuring out my email address, at around that time after I got home from playing sports I would go on our new computer and mess around with it, and I eventually became a wizz at computers and I added kid because that was what I was at a the time, and 89 is for my birth year 1989.

My name is shortened from my actual name which is Cheryon, my avatar is a picture of my main man, Larry, who is more of a lapdog than a cat - which I will change now and then. Nothing exciting, but I like it. Orange, I love the painting! Have a great one!

Dec 28, 2005, 01:02 PM
My user name came from my best friend. I was venting to her one day about how much stuff I had to get done before the weekend. And she said: "you are one bizygirl". Actually she sais it at (biz-ae-gurl) and it kind of stuck. My last user name for this sight had been "hanabelle" because my name is Hannah and instead of "Annabelle" my dad always called me "Hannahbelle" I miss that user name actually.

Dec 28, 2005, 01:13 PM
Thanks Orange, I love your painting also. Its very beautiful. Did it take you along time to do it? Hey I have a question, since we are talking about avatars, I tried to use an animated avatar for this site and it said I wasn't allowed (by animated I mean a moving one) but then I see people using moving graphics on their posts! What's the deal-y-o!

orange
Dec 28, 2005, 01:38 PM
The painting took about 6 hours... but that included waiting for various layers of paint to dry. It's a mixed media of acrylic and watercolour and its actual size is 11 x 14 in or 27.9 x 35.5 cm. Actually I did it quite quickly... I was on a roll that day I guess LOL.

Re: your avatar, maybe the animation you uploaded was bigger than 19.5 K ? Because I think that's the maximum size allowed for an avatar on this site. Maybe try again using an animation that you know is less than 19.5k in size.

Guess I should add this to.

I like to be different so instead of my forename followed by the first letter of my surname, I went for the first letter of my forename by my surname. A contraversal move I know.

As for the avatar, I didn't know what to put so it ended up as a picture of Link as I love the Zelda series of games (new one out in a few months)

You know what I did? My avatar is a picture of the lead singer from evanescence that I found on my launch music thing. All you have to do is right click on the picture and then click on save picture as when it pops up. If you log in to the forum you go to your profile and click on edit photo. If you click on browse it will bring up the pictures you have saved and you can click on that picture to use in the forum. When I get a recent picture of myself in here you will see it. Not all of the sites will allow you to get their pics. Some make it impossible. If you right click and don't see a save pic as then id choose another pic.

Hope ya-all had a great holiday. TomYou do seem to have a little one there, now you just have to keep on finding some pictures on your hard-drive you like, reduce them to the allowed size and keep on trying, as I did. You notice that mine is smaller - I don't know why either, but it took five tries to even get it there. So, I guess practice makes perfect here. Go to your profile again and see if there are instructions on how to change the avatar and how big it's allowed to be. Good Luck.

I'm afraid though if people see me for who I really am, they will be horrified and run away! LOL. Seriously though, very true, bizygurl! I use my artwork as avatars all the time, and I hope that through my drawings and paintings people will see who I am... or at least have an insight into my personality and what's important to me. I'm a bit nervous about posting an actual picture, since this is the internet and I live in a small city and therefore could be easily traced.

bizygurl
Jan 22, 2006, 12:44 PM
Your too funny, Orange, lol! I bet you're a beautiful girl and your being modest. But what a wonderful alternative to show people who you are than through you art. I do agree with you about using a picture. Im not too worried about it as I live in a big city. The only thing Im uncomfortable is putting a picture of my kids up on the board. I know some members have and that's fine but I don't want to take a risk with that. Its too bad because my girls are so cute, Id love for you guys to see them. I feeel close to a lot of people on this board and would love to do that. But there are sickos out there especially when some start threads on child porn, I don't want anyone like that leering at my girls.

orange
Jan 22, 2006, 12:52 PM
Yeah I know what you mean about the kids' pics... I keep thinking that when my child is born, I will be really anxious to show you guys his or her first pictures, but then considering all the freaks I've encountered on this site too... yikes. It's probably not such a good idea. Too bad, because I already know my baby is going to be the cutest ever! ;)

Yeah I'm somewhat nervous about a freaky person tracking me down. I live in a smallish city, and I'm in the artistic community, which is small, and the Jewish community, which is even smaller. So it wouldn't be too hard to find me. Although, finding me and actually travelling to this barren wasteland of northwestern Canada are 2 different things... LOL. Actually I shouldn't complain, we've had a very mild winter so far. But the prairies to the south of here have been hard hit with lots of snow. Anyway I digress...

Thanks for your comments. And yeah other people say I am very attractive but I personally don't see it at all. But like I said earlier, I guess I wouldn't be marrying a doctor if I was THAT disgusting! Haha.

Hey Chava, (orange) That is your name isn't it?

You ask, "I'm just curious about the significance of everyone's usernames and avatars,"

speedball1 was kind of a second choice since speed was taken.
Way back in the 60's I was building choppers, working as a plumber when I had to and was vice president of a outlaw motorcycle club up in Tampa. My club name was Speed. I was Speed of the Evangelists Motor Cycle Club and life was one big non-stop party. You didn't think I got the name Speed by riding my scooter real fast did you? So speedball1 was the only nick close and I'd done a few of those in my time so that's the nick I ended up with.
Needless to say I mellowed out in the 70's and got my act together. Left the club, sold my scooter and buckled down to paying for a house. Today the only thing I ride is a 18 speed bicycle for exercise. That's weird! I'm riding a mountain bike in a state where the highest elevation's a little over 350 feet and on the coast anything the raises up 10 feet is called a hill. Go figure!
As for putting up one of those neat avatars, I would love to have one but don't have the foggiest on where to look for one or how to put it up after I found it. I told you guys I was a computer dummy! I've even forgotten how the smiley got up there. And now you know why speedball's nick is speedball1
Regatds to all, Tom

Hey! That sounds great. Rick taught me how to put up images so I could answer plumbing questionsand now you offer to teach me how to put up a avatar. Thank you very much. Is there a place to check them out or can you just throw up any old picture? Thanks again, tom

orange
Feb 9, 2006, 09:10 AM
There are lots of websites that offer free avatars, and I looked at some briefly for you, but I didn't find any that are specifically related to plumbing. Anyway, I can give you the address of a site, and you can browse through the avatars and see if there's any you like:

http://www.avatarist.com/

This particular site has thousands of avatars, that's why I chose it. If you find an avatar you like, right-click on it and select "save picture as...", and save it to a folder on your computer. Or if you're on a mac, click and hold down the mouse button and you will be given an option to save the image. Make sure you remember where you've saved it so you can upload it later on!

And yes, you can also just put up a picture or an image that's already on your computer, provided it is the right size. If you have a picture in mind, you could post it here (I think you said Scott taught you how to do that?), and I can resize it for you so that it is suitable for an avatar. Then I can explain to you how to put it up.

OR, I can make you one. Take your pick, and let me know. :)

Hey Tom,
What image editing software do you have? In most you choose File>Save As and then select Options to resize the image. Make it aobut 75% of what it is now (example: if its 2"x4 make it 1.5"x3"). That should reduce it enough.

Do you mean after I get a picture on my hard drive I should do this? This would knock down the number of KB's the picture contains? Please excuse the stupid questions. Us plumbers are lost if we can't take a pipe wrench to our computers. Cheers, Tom

Feb 12, 2006, 10:13 AM
When you view an image on your computer, what do you use to do that? Like what's the name of the program that the image / photo is in when you see it? I think that's what Scott means. And he's right... you can resize within whatever program you're using... unless of course your images just open to a browser window.

But the exact way you do it does depend on the software you're using. If you could tell us what you use, we could give you detailed help. I have several editing software programs on my computer: Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Microsoft Image Composer, Adobe Photo Deluxe, etc... and they all have slightly different ways of resizing. When I did your avatar I resized it in Photoshop.

If you by chance have a digital camera or a DVC and load those pictures to your PC, then you probably received a CD with a photo-editing program too. Check your inventory and see if you installed any.

P.S. Orange, my favorite is PaintShopPro - make my coloring books with version 9.

Aton3
Mar 7, 2006, 07:58 AM
Aton3 is the latest variant of the name Aton, that I have used for the past four years on three other sites. I chose it for two reasons. The Aton represents the ONE God introduced by the Ancient Egyptian 'heretic' Pharaoh Akenaten... who conceived the idea of Monotheism long before the authors of the Penteteuch. It represents my life long interest in world religions and belief systems, and my life long love affair with Egypt... one of my areas of expertise. Will be happy to address any questions of Egypt.. ancient or modern.

Thanks, orange. Until Akenaten, ancient egyptians believed in a type of henotheism, one god over all the other gods. But Akenaton claimed there were NO other gods... Only ATON.

My name is a reference to the fictional land in the stories written by Tolkien that saw much sadness mostly, I believe, because the inhabitants couldn't or wouldn't learn the lesson.

Somebody may have answered this before, but how do you get an avitar? How do you up load it?

BTW rkim, FR stands for Father, like in Priest.

FR Chuck is Father Chuck

I'll just cut and paste what I wrote earlier in the thread:

There are lots of websites that offer free avatars. I can give you the address of a site, and you can browse through the avatars and see if there's any you like:

Forum Avatars at Avatarist (http://www.avatarist.com/)

This particular site has thousands of avatars, that's why I chose it. If you find an avatar you like, right-click on it and select "save picture as...", and save it to a folder on your computer. Or if you're on a mac, click and hold down the mouse button and you will be given an option to save the image. Make sure you remember where you've saved it so you can upload it later on!

Once you have an avatar, upload by going to your profile page, "My Profile", then "Edit Photo", then click "Use Photo" and browse your computer to find the avatar and upload it.

Hope that helps.

Besides offering good advice on avatars, one other thing this thread has is longetivity, I remember posting on this thread back in December, and I just want to remind everybody that it's six month anniversary is coming up on the 23rd, so pick out something nice for it. It's cool to see that it has lasted this long, orange u should get a trophy.lol.

Hew wizzkid.. are you going to come up with an avatar soon, or can we pick some for you to think about??

Maybe we could come up with a wizzkid avatar contest.

Haha yeah that's a fun idea... an avatar contest... :)

I've always liked Sherman and Mr. Peabody from the old Rocky and Bullwinkle show. Here are 4 avatars I have of them:

I made up my screen name when I was thinking of naming my 2 youngest daughters which was a difficult feat after naming my oldest Jessamyn. But sadly my husband did not like it there for they were named Akiryanna and Krissalyn. I needed a screen name for AOL and kept drawing a blank until I can back to tiffinity thought it still needed something so rose was added and there it was. My avatar is a Detroit tiger for my favorite team in baseball.
