My husband and I have been trying to conceive for two months. This month one day before my period was due I had brown discharge. I had the Discharge for about 4 days and it never changed to a period. I am now 4 days late for my period and two days from when the discharge stopped. I though it might be implantation bleeding so I tested this morning and it was negative.

Could I have implantation bleeding at 13 day post ovulation? Would a pregnancy test show positive two days after implantation bleeding stopped? Why would I all of the sudden have brown discharge instead of a regular period? I have also started taking prenatal vitamins this month.

Implantation bleeding is not proven. Usually when that happens implantation occurs at or around the same time that we are supposed to get our periods. The lighter bleeding is because we are supposed to be bleeding at or around that time, yet the hormone, hCG that occurs with pregnancy, makes the bleeding a little lighter.

Also, brown blood signifies old blood, but sometimes can indeed be our period. Mother Nature likes to trick us every now and then and give us a period that is too light... too heavy... early... or late.

Please continue to take your prenatals just in case you are pregnant and re-test in about a week using first morning urine.
