Hi,
I am a single mom with no income. I am a full time college student though with grants and loans. Do I still file to claim my daughter and school expenses?
Thanks for you help!
Amanda :)

Well you can always file, in some cases there will be unearned income that you may be able to get. Since you are getting loans and grants to go to school, most of these requires a copy of your tax filing to get these next year, so you may have to file just to get more help next year.

But normally if your income is under certain levels you are not required to file

With absolutely NO income, there is no requirement nor any reason to file.

With no income, you cannot claim the Education Credits.

However, your parents may be able to claim you and your daughter as dependents if they provided as least half of your support in 2007.
