I recently moved into an apartment with this guy I hardly know and my boyfriend. The place is very nice, however, our roommate is not. I also have to move back to NJ due to some family issues. Our lease on the place is 2 months. Basically, if we decided to move out we would have to give our landlord 2 months notice. In the beginning, we were unsure if we wanted to be here. This problem arose and we spoke to our new roommate about it. He said that we could go at anytime, we just had to let him know what our plan was the following Sunday. Saturday came and our roommate went to the hospital for emergency surgery. We didn't see him until tonight, thus we never were able to speak about us moving. When I brought the topic back up tonight, he said that it was too short notice now and we would have to stay through December. My issues back at home need to be addressed asap and there is no way for us to stay here. WE ARE NOT ON OFFICIAL LEASE WITH THE LANDLORD. HE IS. (we asked time after time to put us on the actual lease but the three of us never got around to do it. He also didn't seem too interested in letting his landlord know. MAYBE HE Isn't ALLOWED TO SUBLET?) my boyfriend and I never signed the lease or any other binding contract. Our roommate said that we had a verbal agreement. Is there anyway out of this? It isn't like we owe him money or anything. He can pay for this place on his own.
