    Closed Adoption Records?
I am 25 years old I was adopted when I was 10 years old, the adoption was a closed adoption and I am interested in obtaining my original birth certificate due to the death of both my adoptive parents. It would mean a lot to me to be able to find out what nationality I am and some possibly some family history. How would I go about getting my original birth certificates?

Here is advice from our expert - https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/adopti...on-401680.html

You obviously cannot ask your parents, who are deceased. Are there other family relatives who have info?

Also have you went though all of the old family records ? Often there was copy of court records your adopt parents received.

Next a DNA test can be done to tell you the nationality, often even estimated areas of some nations historicly.

No one seems to know about my biological parents just the adoption process itself.

Well ironically I had found some court papers and documents when I was younger all of which the names and other vital info had been whited out unfortunately since the death of my adopted parents many other family members cleaned out the garage and sold the house so I believe what was once a small trace of my adoption is now lost, I feel like I'm starting from scratch but at least it's a starting point.

A closed adoption of a 10 year old from 15 years ago is pretty serious.

They generally don't close adoptions of older children unless there is a very good reason to keep you from your biological parents--like abuse, neglect, molestation, etc.

Were you adopted internationally? Domestically through an agency? From foster care?

Sorry I missed the 10 year old somehow, so you at 10 would have known the names of your birth parents ?

The adoption was final when I was 10 but I was given up for adoption at 2 and spent 4 years in foster care at about 6 or 7 years old I met and started visitations with my adoptive parents...

From what I understand my adoption was closed because my biological sisters adoptive parents didn't want us having contact with each other due to abuse that occurred in one of our foster homes... my sister was young enough that she didn't remember but I do and for that reason my adopted parents as well as hers felt that it would be better if we all went our separate ways as a part of my adoption my parents were required to send me through counseling... and I was adopted through an agency after having been in foster care for 4 years

The agency through which you were adopted may have some records--but again, if your biological parents had their rights severed when you were 2, something serious went on there.

You don't spend several years in foster care starting at age two if their rights were severed, either. They were still trying to get you back at that point, because at 2, foster children are still EXTREMELY adoptable. You would have been adopted at that point if your biological parents rights had already been severed.

You can check with adoption agencies, and you can check for your CPS record--but quite honestly, I'd leave this alone. If you do decide to go forward, I would only search through adoption reunion websites, and I would make sure to get a LOT of counseling prior to any meeting.
