I have the stupids a lot (you know...where you go to say something, and not only do you lose your train of though, you forget that there was a train to being with?), but I'm really lucky to have a husband that supports me 100%.

We're going together this weekend to join a health club, and shopping together tonight to have snacks in the house that are good, but not so fattening or unhealthy as pints of Ben & Jerrys. He's not a big fruit and veggie eater, and I've been craving sweets. Any suggestions for sweet sort of stuff that isn't HORRIBLE for you?

(This thread, btw, has been a godsend. Every time I think of lighting up, I can come here)

Lol Synnen... you sound like me! Sometimes it just helps to cry and yes... thank god you have a good husband who understands! The funny thing is that when you were yelling at him he was probably laughing inside but couldn't show you because you'd be more upset!

My doctor told me that quitting smoking is harder than losing weight! Scary:eek:

Anyway... you all are doing great and yes... this thread is a god sent! Thank you for starting it CBW!;)

    Hi Everyone,

How did all of you do today? I had 5 cigarettes today. Not happy with that. But guess that means there is room for improvement.

Doctor was THRILLED with my decision to stop smoking and how I have cut it down to 5. I think it was the first time a doctor was ever happy with me as I am not the best patient.

He prescribed "Chantix". Which is a medicine that assist in stopping smoking. I think it is a 6 week plan. Side effects?? Only nausea, changes in dreaming, constipation, gas and/or vomiting... YIPPEE :(. Well, I will give it a go. I start tomorrow. It comes in a starter pack which is very easy to follow. For the first week, you can smoke, but the doc said then the next week you have to stop, and actually the medicine makes smoking very undesirable, I guess it does if you are experiencing nausea, constipation and gas; who feels like doing anything under those conditions... ugh! But I am still determined.
Hope you all are as well.

Was thinking of all of you!

Okay... that whole changes in dreaming thing? That happens just with pulling the nicotine out of your system. The first week I quit was HELL. I couldn't stay asleep for long periods, and when I DID sleep, I had really strange dreams, many of them nightmares.

Getting through the first week wasn't that hard except for that. The second week has been hard because now it's ALL habits, and not the nicotine (or lack thereof) screaming at me anymore. I carry hard candies at all times, and make sure I ALWAYS have something to chew on... gum, soda straws, toothpicks, pencils, whatever. I feel angry and forgetful almost all of the time... but I finally also have started feeling like I'm accomplishing something. I held a cigarette in my hands today, and though I KNEW no one but me would know about it if I lit it... I didn't. I threw it out.

If I could do it, you can too! I'm cheering you all on! You're my support group on this, so if there's anything I can help any of y'all get through, let me know, and I'm so there.

Ah yes we have that medication here I tried it about 6 years ago and I'm afraid it didn't make me sick just shudder a bit so I never actually stopped smoking.

I wish you all the best with it though Allheart you never know you might just succeed and seeing as in your mind your already thinking yuck the pills might just push that over the top.

I had 6 yesteerday today screw it its none I'm not going to go buy anymore unless I become real nasty.

Laura that is great. That is exactly what I feel like doing today. Just throwing them down and saying enough! :) You can do this!! Wish I didn't have any in the house too. Hey, if you get nasty, you get nasty, it will pass.

I am really scared to take this medicine, so why am I?? Cause I am a ding dong. Well, I guess my thinking is, if I get sick enough off the medicine than maybe I will get sick of the whole thing and that thought will put me over this final hurdle. Plus, I feel so bad, hubby went to get the perscription for me, and here, my insurance didn't cover it, so it cost $90.00. I felt so bad when he came out of the store. But like hubby said, just look at how much we will be saving in not buying cigarates. He was so kind about it, so I have to give it a try. He received a perscription for it as well, but he is going to wait to see how I do, plus I don't think he reached the point of the strong desire to quit. He has the desire, so if he sees me quit, hopefully that will be incentive for him. He keeps telling me how proud he is of me... awwww. Oh I still feel awful about the $90.00. I had no idea the insurance wouldn't cover it. But the pharmisist told him, the medicine is new over here.

To be honest right now that huge urge to smoke is gone. It is just the habit and the "comfort" we get from smoking that has me tempted to light up.

Stay strong Laura! Just think how great it will be to finally be free of these things :)

Oh Synnen, good for you!! And thanks for the cheer, here is one back at you :). That is a great thought, I loved what you said. "I finally started feeling like I'm accomplishing something". That thought, I will keep telling myself and you and all of us will to. Thank you for that.

Allheart... 90 dollars holy cow that's a lot of money we pay a minimal sum here for what ever the script is but they do take a slice of our wages for hospital and dr care so I'm not sure who is better off.

Stay strong sending you huge huge hugs and millie is too she just climbed up to see what I'm doing :)

I really needed that. Hugs to you and Millie :).

I know, $90.00. Yikes. If my insurance did cover it, it would have been $20.00.
Will be taking my first pill in a little bit. I'll let you know.

    Thanks again..

    Wooohoooo I love it. :)

Too funny - sure beats having to be under the stairs. Okay everyone at AMHD be on your very best behaviour!!

No way we can't beat these now.

Laura, how are you doing so far today?

Me. Not so good. Had 3 already. Buuuut here's why:

    - Found a quick way to make scrambled eggs. When I put the dozen of eggs in the fridge door , I didn't do a very good job, so when I opened up the fridge door again, yup, a tumble they went... Instant scrambled eggs. Yeh!!

    - Was out an about running errands. Going somewhat near the speed limit:rolleyes: , and lo and behold, there was a friendly police officer. Who, decided to make a U - turn, drive behind me, put on his siren and lights, oh my heart!! But then he turned off and went chasing after someone else. But did I light up? No, as I don't smoke in the car, so I just ran the car off the road, but hey, I didn't light up :)

After completeing my errands, I got out of my car, and noticed that someone else needed my hubcap to my rear tire more than I did. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. I wish them well with it. Perhaps they will be back to claim the other 3 so they will have a full set.

I just bought a SadDisk e200 MP3 player, so I can take walks instead of smoking. Good thought right? Well, I am not very technical, soooooo, I needed the assistance of the tech support team, as I could not shut the darn thing off. Well, after being on hold for 45 minutes, I was informed, I need to hold the menu button down for 30 seconds... yippee I feel like a fool :) Oh my.

Ben, welcome. Care for some scrambled eggs? LOL

Okay here it goes. I SWEAR not to lecture you on the reason not to smoke. I got enough of that to last me a life time from my little well meaning cherubs. I smoked heavy. Almost a pack a day. I wouldn't smoke in front of my kids or in the house. It didn't seem to really bother anyone. Thenh they started school. And the lectures started. And continued and continued. Then one day I realized my smoking scared my boys. I was outside smoking on the front porch when my oldest knocked on the door from the inside. When I looked he held up a paper he'd gotten from school for drug awareness week. Listing the importance of not smoking.
I actually saw tears in their eyes because of me smoking. I never left so giulty in my life. So the next day, all 3 of us went to the drug store. My oldest was sure I'd ask for cigarettes. But I surprised him by asking for the nicorete gum. I chewed it whenever I needed to and managed to stop smoking. Whenever I get the strong urge to smoke, I can't help seeing their faces in my head that fateful day. It's a big deterrent to keep me on the wagon. Every no and then I chew a piece of that gum or suck on a mini tootsie pop. By the time Im finished my craving for the smoke is passed.
You'll get craving ticks all the time. In the beginning they're stronger and the longer you go without smoking the weaker they get.
You need to quit the ways that's best for you. That's anyway you can and that makes you feel good about yourself. Feeling proud of your accomplishment. Feeling so confident you can move mountains. Feeling it easier to breathe and fewer chest colds not to mention sinus infections(my biggest problem).
I always treated myself to something special for every week I went without a smoke. Whether it be a movie or a pair of earrings. It was my reward for succeeding. Ive haven't smoked since 2004 and I feel good. I can keep up with my kids and I joined a gym all bebcause I quit smoking.
It'll be hard the first 2 -3 days but stick with it the results are worth it. I'm proud of the fact you're asking for advice.
Keep up the good work and I'll say a prayer for you.

I found it and it fits us perfectly. Shall it be our theme song ? :):)

Win or lose, sink or swim
One thing is certain, we'll never give in
Side by side, hand in hand
    We all stand together

Play the game, fight the fight
But what's the point on a beautiful night
Arm in arm, hand in hand
    We all stand together
La la la la la la la la
Keeping us warm in the night
La la la la la la la la la la la
    Walk in the light
    You'll get it right

La la la la la la la la
Keeping us warm in the night
La la la la la la la la la la la
    Walk in the light
    You'll get it right

Win or lose, sink or swim
One thing is certain, we'll never give in
