    16HP B&S Vanguard V Twin won't start
    Hi
My 16HP B&S Vanguard V Twin won't start. There was a thing with wires at the bottom of the carb, but when removing the carb to check for a blockage, the wire snapped off. However, this does not seem to prevent the float chamber filling with fuel. There is fuel being pumbed from the fuel pump when the engine is turned over and there is fuel in the float chamber of the carb. The engine starts if I spray fuel directly into the carb, or if I hold my hand tightly over the carb to prevent air entering (as well as ensuring that the choke is opearting the flap, making sure this is closed). When it starts I have to let small amounts of air into the carb by moving my hand a little. By doing this I can keep her running. Any ideas?:(

That would be the anti backfire solenoid. It will allow fuel to enter the bowl but not allow it to enter the main nozzle and throat of carb if disconnected.

Thanks for that. I will try replacing the anti backfire solenoid. Interestingly, the mower stpped woring before I accidentally broke the wire to the solenoid. Do you think the carb was probably just blocked at that point, and now having cleaned the carb but at the same time broken the wire to the solenoid, I have shifted the problem?

Its possible, I would replace or repair solenoid and then look at the carb.
