    Stanley garage door opener
I have a Stanley garage door opener . The Stanley remote opens the door very well ,but will not close the door.

The button on the wall will close the door if you hold it in, only. As soon as you let go the door stops.

How do I get the Remote to close the door?

Is this a newly installed door or an one that used to operate OK?

No, its 17 years old. We just bought the house ,so I can only assume it worked properly when new.

Does that mean it was not working when you bought the house? To be forthright with you, I don't see too many openers that old. Motors go out, bearing burn and chain links weaken. This unit may not be worth the repair parts because I'm thinking it is the controler switch on the motor, I'd have to test to tell for sure. For about $150 you could re[place the entire opener with one that uses wireless remotes and safety sensors that will stop if a child or animal tries to enter during operation.

Thank you, I am going to replace the two 8 foot doors with one 16 feet door this summer anyway ,so I will get a new opener . Both the old openers are giving trouble.
