Volvo S80 - Door Lock is making a "spitting" sound when locking/unlocking
I have a 2000 S80 T6 that has suddenly started making sort of a spitting sound in the back driver side door lock when the locks are prompted to lock/unlock. It doesn't usually keep the lock from functioning, but there have been a few instances where the lock doesn't lock.

Any thoughts on what this is and how do I go about fixing it without incurring a large bill?

    Thanks.

Seeing as your car locks are a major issue, you should take it to the dealership and have them fixed, right ? Why would you play around with security ?

I am not looking to "play around" with security. I am looking for an answer on how to fix the problem and to avoid the high cost of the dealership.

If it's just that door, then 9 out of 10 times it's the door lock actuator. Not really that big-a-deal. But could be a couple hundred repair cost.
I'm a dealer guy, and I can speak for most, yes it will cost you more, but I've seen absolute butchers who think they're mechanics, that tear into things like that and mess it up even more.
It's your Volvo! And I think most Volvo owners are very proud of their cars. So why not take it to the pro's. Or at least a shop that only deals in swedish makes.

Good luck and I hope it turns out all right for you.

Thanks, Kitch428, for a reply that is actually helpful. I guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and pay someone to fix it for me...

I have a similar issue, on the same car (2000 S80.) From what I understand, there is a gear mechanism in the driver's door assembly that is wearing away. Mine is totally worn now, and I have to use the key to lock / unlock the door.

I am trying to find the replacement part. I was quoted ~$400 by a local repair place, but I can't imagine the part being more than $80-$100 (the quote included installation.)

Please reply if you find a solution.

    Thanks.
