Meter Base with disconnect and A/C Breakers
My meter base will have an outside 200amp disconnect. It will also have three 30amp breakers to feed the A/C units located a few feet from the meter. There will also be a 200amp main panel located in the basement.

My question is if my disconnect outside is a 200amp and I have three 30amp breakers for the A/C units, will it be fine to have a 200amp main panel inside. Or should it be smaller since there are three 30amp breakers outside. There has been a survey done using total estimated amp usage that included all major appliances, A/C & Heat units, square footage etc. and it showed that we will be at about 147amps total.

Another question that I have is about the 30amp breakers outside. From what I understand, they will be the thinner space breakers to allow for room to fit three of them in the slots. The electrician said that they will be double throw. Is this OK?

    Thanks...

Having the 200 amp panel inside is fine, along with the 3 - 30 amp breakers outside for the HVAC units. All of this is protected by the 200 amp main disconnect outside.

Are you sure the HVAC breakers are "double throw" and not double pole? The HVAC units will be 240 volt rated, and need 2 pole, or "double pole" circuit breakers.

Is the outdoor meter some sort of combination meter/panellboard with a main breaker and space for branch circuits?

Yes tkrussell... You are correct... they are double pole. These will feed 240 volt 25 amp units. The outdoor meter is a GE Combo unit. It has the meter base with a separate section below it that will house the 200 amp main and the 30amp breakers. Will the thin type breakers be OK?

The thin, or half size as GE calls them, will work just fine, as long as the panelboard can accept them, which I assume the electrician already knows they will fit.
