If I were your mother and noticed that you had those scary symptoms, I would immediately call the doctor and make an appointment. Soooooo, please make an appointment with your vet and take your dog to get medical help!

Exactly blood in poo is never a good sign.
    Get his checked out.

On a side note, I always wanted to ask this Wondergirl, but how did your cats get on with the wild sisters?

I hope the OP tells us what happened.

The weather warmed up, and the two feral cats seem happy enough outside, using the warm, sheltered space in our garage and eating regular meals, so there has been no attempt to bring them inside yet.

I'm not an expert, but I think that is a sign that the dog might have worms. Definitely take the dog to the vet.

Yes that can be a sign of ring worms.
    Amongst other things.

Wondergirl, I hope the ferrels will come around when the weather gets colder!

Nooooooooooooo. I don't want colder temps!! We want SPRING!! We may invite them into the basement and segregate them from the other kitties for a while. They will be able to sniff and howl at each other through the door, and we will be able to spend quality time with the ferals.

    Sorry! Lol.
Just think January is almost done, and Feb is the coldest but shortest month, we're almost to Spring!
    Good luck!

Not ring worms, that's a type of fungus.

    Mucus in Dog Poop

    Quote:

Mucus is a jelly like substance which can be clear, white, or yellow in coloration. It is produced by the mucous membrane in the large intestine. Mucus is a protective secretion which is also produced by other organs in the body such as the lungs, where it helps to trap any foreign particles that are inhaled. In the intestine, mucus protects the inner lining and helps ease the passage of stool.

Normally your doggie poop contains a small amount of mucus, but poop with visible amounts of mucus can be from a variety of causes. Mucus in the poop is a common symptom of irritable bowel syndrome and ulcerative colitis. A bacterial infection, anal fissure, or a bowel obstruction may also cause excess secretion of mucus.

In Ulcerative Colitis, the mucus membrane of the intestine becomes inflamed and develops ulcers. These ulcers bleed and produce pus and mucus, which may be visible as they are passed in the stool. In case of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, there will be increased mucus production by the lining of the intestine, which is then passed.

Bacterial infections are likely to cause mucus in the poop. A bacterial infection may also be the cause of diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. Some bacterial infections may resolve on their own without treatment, but some cases may be serious and require professional medical help for your pet.

A bowel obstruction is associated with constipation, severe cramps, abdominal tenderness, and vomiting as well as the passage of mucus. Bowel obstructions can be from a variety of causes and in many instances require surgical procedure to resolve the issue.

If your dog is earlier diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome or Ulcerative Colitis, then mucus in his poop should not be a point to worry. But in case an intestinal obstruction you need to consult a professional for further diagnosis and or treatment.
