The correct tank setting is two pounds under the cut in pressure, not the cut off pressure. This is done by draining the tank and then setting the pressure to, in your case, 28 pounds.

Installing a new switch is fairly simple if you are comfortable with the electrical side of things. Make sure you wire it in the same fashion as your old switch. Looks like 21 sent you some good sites. The one from inspect-ny.com is especially useful.

Ifyour control box is a 30/50 the setting's correct. This setting is made with the power off and the pressure bled off and is 2 PSI under the cut in point of the control box. Good luck, Tom

Lx, the pressure in the top of the tank does not directly impact the operation of the switch. In other words, changing the pressure a few pounds one way or the other will not cause the switch to operate or fail to operate. You need to remove the grey cover (power off) and see if the points are closed. If they are not, then check the little tube leading to the switch to see if it might be clogged.

If they are closed, then use a voltmeter to make sure power is getting to the wires leading to the pump.

One more item. Some switches have a reset lever on the side. Make sure the work the lever a couple of times to make sure the switch is set to work.

I might add that adjusting the pressure at the top of the tank is good advice. It should always be done. My point is just that you will not fix your switch by doing that.
