The ratio is dependent on the oil as much as the machine. Buy a two cycle oil that gives a recommended ratio or stick with 32:1, may be a little rich but won't burn it up.

Is the brand Featherlight? Or is it a weed eater featherlight model? Weed eater, craftsman, poulan all take 40 to 1.
Ace has an all-blend oil that's worked great in my blower and weedwacker. You basically pour one container into one gallon of gas and its supposed to work for anything that needs a blend up to 50:1.
Not an expert here so don't know the downfalls. It smokes a bit in my mower, but its run fine. And the blower and weedwacker have run perfectly without needing multiple containers for gas/oil blends.
Most take 40/1 ratio of gas to oil but I believe yours takes 50/1, check your owner's manual for the correct ratio just to make sure.
Two stroke engines are the same, RPM's may change slightly. They get their lube from the fuel and all two strokes need the same. The blends will determine the ratio. When Homelite recommends a ratio it is with the understanding and recommendation you use their oil. The old Mccullochs used 10-30 @ 16:1 But they only turned at 6,000 RPM Now we get to spinning at 12,000+ so the oils are critical.
