What to feed a sick dog that will not eat?
2 weeks ago we discovered my my 11 year old yorkie has liver disease. The vet put her on 3 medienes one to protect the liver, one to get off the fluid and one to fight infections. We brought her home and she was still eating her science diet. 3 days later she stopped, we have tried milk thistle. And we have tried to feed her everything she ate until a couple of days ago. We tried eggs,oatmeal.chicken-boiled pork, ground beef, cheese, vailla wafers. Cesar dog food.presuction diet-recoverly.purina and everything else.dog bone. Baby food. Tuna.turkey. Rice and even lettuce. Etc.

She get's weak and stumbles around and will fall in the water because her legs will not bend. Since she will not eat.

The vet said she is not in pain though and not to give up on her yet and I know to more people whose dog got liver disease the same week. Could it be a virus?

And what else could I try to feed her to build her up?

Seeing as how she as liver disease, you want to give her GOOD FOOD.. not adequate food that she will eat. The liver is having a hard time functioning. It seems like you have tried everything that I would recommend, now its time to call the vet. I wouldn't suggest to try any other food other than the food prescribed to her for her liver disorder.

I had a dog that had acute liver failure. It was due to a very fatty piece of meat that she ate. She was on a prescribed dog food for the liver. She hated it and would try and starve herself. She did eat it.. It was painful for her to eat it, but she did.

Talk to your vet. It may be the medications making her sick and they may need to adjust her dosage or put her on a different type.

Because it's a liver... I just wouldn't feel comfortable telling you to feed her high calorie foods... :(

Please, call your vet right now and, I guess, demand that they fix this issue.

My 3-4 year old Yorkie (Mixed) had been acting the same way. But my dog wouldn't eat/ or drink anything it finally got to the point were the vet told us we would have to use a syringe and force fluids down in him. My dog was also vomiting along with the above symptoms. The vet told us to try feeding our dog White Rice and cooked little shreds of meat to put in it. Our dog was also on 3 medications. There really is nothing you can do our vet kept our little dog for 2 nights and had been giving him medications there also. The vet called us today and told us our little one didn't have much time left. As I'm saying this I'm crying and it will hurt. But all I can tell you to do is love and care for your dog as long as you possibly can.

My dogs name was Romeo, and he did die today, from all of the same symptoms as yours and I hate to tell you this but your dog probably has the same thing mine does. My dog was diagnosed with Liver Disease, something with his spleen, and also something with his pancreas. I hope nothing happens to your dog like mine!!
