Newly installed light fixture is making a humming sound. Does this mean something is wrong with it or was it not installed correctly?
Thank you very much.

If it's a fluorescent fixture, the humming may be coming from the ballast. There may be other reasons it's humming also.
Need make and model number of the fixture.
Photos would help.
Actually, it is a ceiling fan with a light kit that my wife's brother installed. It is a Harbor Breeze Bella Vista Model #BE44AN5C.
He removed a chandelier type light fixture that was operated by a wall dimmer switch.
I will upload a photo if you are still interested.
Thank you.
So is the fan humming, or is the light bulb humming when using the dimmer?
It is the light fixture that is humming and it does it when the light is not dimmed.
What type of light bulb? An incandescent or a CFL,(compact fluorescent lamp)? Dimmers can make an incandescent lamp hum or buzz, usually only when you dim it. CFL may hum if it is not dimmable.
Remove the dimmer switch, replace it with a regular switch.
Thank you very much for the advice. I will try installing a regular switch.
BTW, the fixture calls for (3) 60 watt candelabra bulbs.
Thanks.
Did it work?
