Windows ME - no internet connection
I have network - this computer (Windows ME) was working fine until Norton suggested removing the following threats: silc_dll.dll, rlls.dll, rlvkvlg.dll, and ldpochage.dll

The computer is able to access other computers on the network. It can't connect to the internet despite all network components being present. After running internet connection wizard Internet Explorer displays that connection can't be made - run detect network settings if allowed by administrator. This doesn't help either.

Windows XP and 98 both have methods for repairing Internet Explorer but I have not found how to do this in Windows ME.

I have reinstalled Windows Me, and installed a wireless adaptor with no improvements. It connects to network but not to the internet.

Any helpful suggestions will be appreciated.

Quick suggestion: do you still have your gateway and Dns settings in? If not check the other machines for this and copy

thanks but those entries are not assigned on any machines here. I can do ipconfig and IP address, subnet mask and default gateway have values expected. I can access files on other machines and they can access files on this machine.

Try going to a command prompt and running "ping 64.233.187.99" this is a Google ip address.

If this works your dns is wrong, if not you don't have any access and may need to look at firewall settings on the router/internet sharing device.

ping was successful = 4 packets sent and received with no errors.

I have run winipconfig - release, then renew and still no internet connection.

I went to HELP and tried to find firewall settings with no luck. Now I remember why so many do not like Windows ME.

    Again, thank you for suggestion.

The firewall is not your problem, you need to configure your DNS servers in your ME computer. Go to network properties and manually enter the dns server names - these will be related to your ISP and not local addresses (unless you have a local DNS server). For the moment try using demon's server addresses:

    Primary 158.152.1.58
    Secondary 158.152.1.43#

The best servers to use though are your ISP's, try to find that from the other machines by using ipconfig /all on a 2000 or xp machine!
