Can anything be done to a teacher who molested my daughter 8 years ago?
This evening, My 16 year old daughter told me her teacher, when she was 8 years old, took her to a separate room where he touched her private areas and made her stroke his penis. Can anything be done to this person who is still teaching?

If you are in the US, you almost certainly can, depending on where you live. Some states have no statue of limitation on childhood sexual abuse, while others have limits from 3 to 30 years. However, that 'clock' usually starts ticking from either age of majority or from the time the abuse is discovered--not from when it occurred.

Here is a listing of statues by state:

You are answering questions on a legal board. Please answer according to the law and not with "I'm not quite sure" and/or "I think."

The answer to the OP is to consult with an Attorney in his/her State. The law does vary.

How many times did this teacher do this and were there any witnesses and why didn't your daughter tell you before?

I'm saying I'm not sure because I don't know how it is where she lives...

You are new here, so please take this as a friendly notice. The technical boards, of which the law forum is one, has a higher standard for the accuracy of the answers posted here. They are required to be factual and technical accurate. Please take a look at how posts are answered in these forums before answering.

First he can and should be reported to the school, They have their own policies and procedues and if nothing else, perhaps he can be taken out of teaching. Not sure if one old report will do a lot, but often one person being brave enough to say something will get others to also. And perhaps if he is still doing it, a school investigation will find newer victims.

Next you report it to the police, as old as it is, it may or may not be past a SOL, and even if not, with little evidence and so old they may not do anything, but you have done all you can do at least.

    I don't think he's new - I think he's the same guy, new name.

What state are you in so we can look up the law for you. In most cases of criminal conduct against a child there is no SOL. That is one of the newer laws. I believe it applies here.
