Recent Mirena (iud) Removal. Am I pregnant? Already?
So I had my mirena put in 2 years ago after the birth of my daughter. I didn't have my period while I had it in. I had it removed 5/16/09 I started my period 5/19/09 it lasted about 3 days. It is now 6/25/09 and I still
Haven't had my period. I don't know if its normal to miss periods after the removal of mirena? I have taken 2 at home pregnancy test both negative. I went to planned parenthood and there test said no, but said that if I got pregnant with in the last 2 weeks there test wouldn't show it. I don't know what to do. I don't want to keep waisting money on pregnancy tests, but I have a feeling I'm pregnant, I'm getting head aches, Tenderness, Mood swings, sickness , and my smell is more intense if my hubby smokes and he comes back in and I smell it my stomach turns and I get sick. Help!

A lot of people have irregular periods when they stop using hormone based birth control.
Some become regular immediately, others can take 12 months.
You can also see a lot of changes like the ones you describes, when I stopped taking the BC pill I had terrible mood swings for the first few months and tenderness, it was just my body re-adjusting itself.

It is a 50/50 chance, your best bet would be to wait until your next period would be due and take another test using first morning urine. If you still have doubts after that go to your doctor for a blood test.

Hey,got my mirena out 4 weeks ago, bleed for 4 days..
Got my first proper period yesterday.first in 4 years, dam,Im a real woman now.. (joke) boobs were killing me,bloated and sick feeling until it came.
Your body may still be adjusting to the lack of hormone.

Give it another week, see how you feel.if you are pregnant enough time may have passed to show in test.

Redhed, have you been pregnant before? Did the things you felt before your first post-mirena period seem like pregnancy symptoms to you? Because stupid hubby and I had sex two days before removal, not knowing that you really shouldn't do that as sperm can hang around for a long time and I could have been ovulating (wouldn't know if I was as I stopped having periods with mirena).
I would be happy either way but would just like to get the uncertainty cleared up. The stress is giving me night terrors!

Yes,I had 4 pregnancies.. and yes every period felt as if I was pregnant, however in saying that, woman are different, and we all have varying degrees of period symptoms..

However, for the first few months with the coil in I had very heavy periods, which subsided,to none.

The period I had after I mirena removal, first in 4 years, was terrible,in fact even though I knew I could not be pregnant I did a test! My own head and hormones playing tricks.

Its been a while since you posted,if you have still not gotten a period after 28 days,do a pregnancy test, however as I said every woman is different and your body will adjust in its own time.

Other then that, get back to your doctor and see what they say.

    Hello Everyone!
I had Mirena removed 09/24/2010 due to health reasons. Yesterday my husbands condom slipped off. The DR told me I am safe about 2-3weeks but I'm scared. We can't afford another baby. Should I Buy Plan B? Or Could I be OK? Also I was on my period when it got removed.

Personally I'd go with the plan b as an extra precaution since a baby at this time would not be a choice you would make. You could be protected still, but no birth control is 100% effective.

OMG - I booked my appointment for the Mirena removal months ago, never was I told there was a chance of pregnancy if I had sex 7 days before! We had a last 'hurrah' this morning (and plan on using condoms + withdrawl until Hubby gets in for vasectomy), had my Mirena removed this afternoon... (had it in for 7 years) and now I read this. Crap! All my gyne said was as soon as its out if we have unprotected sex chance of pregnancy - nothing about chance of pregs if we'd had sex just prior to removal.

Omgwhatdidwedo, are you pregnant? The same thing happened to me with ob not telling me about having sex before removal and now I am really worried. (Had it 3 days prior to removal). That is really vital info to give someone and I am highly annoyed I even have to worry about this.

I found out I was pregnant 3 weeks after my IUD was removed (mirena), can I still have a healthy pregnancy??

Sorry I forgot to add that I had withdrawl bleeding and a period almost immediately and had a period the whole time I had my IUD... Oh and my doctor told before I got my IUD removed that 4 days before you get your IUD removed you can get pregnant if you have sex. Hope that makes sense.

Yes, in all likelihood your pregnancy will go just fine. Congrats!
