Am I pregnant with the Mirena IUD?
Ok this is my short story to help you understand what I'm trying to ask. I am 23 years old. I have 3 children 1 passed away due to SIDS. My husband and I decided for me to get an IUD. It has been in for a year now. I have had normal periods until now. Lately I spot a brown colored blood for a day two at most. This has happened for my last two periods. I also have gained about 10 pounds in the last month! I have changed my eating habits started exercising and taking natural diet pills and just keep gaining!! I don't understand it. We don't use protection since I have and IUD. My belly doesn't look fatty it looks like a baby belly. My weight gain is only my belly and breast. I took a home pregnancy test and it was negative. Which when I was pregnant with 2 of my children I had negative results until I had a blood test done. I don't understand what's going on. I don't have medical insurance and can't afford to go to a doctor so I am puzzled and at a stand still. If anyone has any ideas on what's wrong or what to do PLEASE let me know.

I didn't have any insurance and the best thing to do is find out if there are any clinics in your area to go to , most are free and if not, theyl refer you to some place that is, it defintiley is an emergency. IUDS usually last like 8 years if I'm not wrong, so the bleeding shouldn't occur. Hope this helped..

I understand how it is to not have insurance, its rough. However, in your situation, you really need to find a way to get to the doctor asap. If you are pregnant, you need to get the IUD removed immediately, before it is too late to take it out. IUD's can cause serious problems during pregnancy for you and baby, so its really in your best interest to get this checked out and soon
It could also be that the IUD has moved, or is causing irritation, etc. No matter the case, it is a good idea to get checked asap. Good luck

There are free clinics in almost every city and state depending where you are try to research and find one.

Make sure to take care of yourself, because if you are preganant, you need at least 9 months of service.

I'm not sure what state you live in but most have health insurance specifically for uninsured pregnant women. To get the test, contact your local health department. Their test is free. Explain that you always get a negative result with the urine test and you may require blood.

For my own sake I hope your results are negative. I don't want to believe it's possible to get pregnant with this thing inserted. I have been searching the web for info because I too have the mirena but I just don't feel right lately. I am going to get a test tomorrow.

    Good luck.

Sweetie I am answering you on my daughters membership.

I have had my second mirena device fitted and have clocked up some 11 years.

With my 1st I had very little or no bleeding for a few years and then bleeding on and off.

With my 2nd I have not had as little bleeding, but the spotting of brown blood is quite normal(its quite like the loss after childbirth) I have also increased in weight around the tummy and breasts(due to hormones on the iud) I have had an increase in mood swings and in period like pain.

There are as yet no recorded pregnancies with the mirena iud fitted.

But I should pop along to a clinic for a little checkup and a chat just to put your mind at rest.

    And god bless xx

It's is possible but not likely to get pregnant w/ Mirena. After one year, many women have no period and only spot occasionally due to the hormone in the Mirena.

It IS possible to get pregnant with the IUD It happened to me, although I miscarried due to the IUD and meds I'm on for my other health problems. This isn't always the case. You can look up, there are many other sites with info on this. Google works wonders. Believe it or not pregnancy with an IUD is more common then you may think. Also the IUD can move around or even fall out. Check your strings every month like your doctor "should" have advised. As for feeling differently that's what happened to me but I didn't think much of it because I did the same as you and asked a question online and got just about the same answers. My test was also negative and I didn't know until I actually started showing. I had tender breast, morning sickness, craved sweets which I hardly eat, I felt weak and tired all day, headaches, pretty much all of the sings I had with my son. I didn't believe it was possible so I didn't get it checked out. Instead I got the symptoms checked as they popped up, the doctors were puzzled as to what was wrong with me. Never tested for pregnancy. After a while I couldn't resist the urge I broke down and bought a home pregnancy test, worried I waited my 2-3 minutes and it came up negative. I didn't give it much though after that until my belly got bigger and firm. Then I did my internet research again and found that it is possible to get pregnan.t After all the IUD are not 100% they are 98% like a condom. So yes if you suspect that this may be the case go to your local health department and get tested. The doctors will tell you that you should either get an abortion for health reasons or you can try to keep the baby, which you have about a 75% chance to miscarry during the 2nd term, painful and emotional... but that's not always the case many women have had healthy babies with the IUD. It isn't always removed either depending on where its located. It may be safer for you and your baby to keep it in if you decided to keep the baby. If you are pregnant its considered a high risk pregnancy. So go to the doctor to be sure. One last thing, ectopic pregnancies are more common with the IUD then normal ones so its very important you go to the dr. ASAP.

Hi, I just found this site.. and I thought I give you my experience.. I often look for this topic because when I WAS PREGNANT with my third child with the MIRENA IUD there were no many sites I was able to go to. I don't know if you are pregnant.. and by now I am assuming you have gotten your answer.. but I want to tell you that it is VERY possible to get pregnant while using an IUD. I had my MIRENA IUD fitted, and ended up pregnant about three years ago. I had had my IUD for about two years when I discovered I was pregnant.. my prognosis.. was not certain, and I was terrified that I would lose the baby, or that something would happen to me. I can tell you that the entire time I was pregnant I was very worried! and very depressed.. I can also tell you that I visited the ER many times because of complications of the IUD.. however I was blessed and delivered a healthy baby boy. I was just reading an a lady had posted that there are no recorded pregnancies with the IUD and I am sorry to tell you that , that is NOT true! Many , many woman have gotten pregnant, and many have lost their babies, uterus, and sometimes close to dying do to infection. It really bothers me that such a statement can be made with absolulaty nothing to base it on! I know the company knows of this cases.. they know of me! And I can tell you that IUD are not as effective as thought to be. I would never recommend it , and I wish whomever had it would consider the consequences. I was lucky and blessed, but unfortunally that is NOT always the case. Good luck

I had the Mirena inserted about 4 yrs ago, and just recently noticed my period was not the same. I spotted briefly. I just bought a pt and it came up positive. I am in such turmoil right now. I never thought I would be one of the .01 percent that ended up pregnant.

Hi I'm a mother of 1 Im on Mirena also I took a are you pregnant quiz hoping to god I would flunk and its telling me to get an at home test because I have most of the signs for early pregnancy I'm scared to death. The first time the doctor put it in he ended up riping my cervix and I was in pain for a good two weeks. I went to the ER and they found possibly cancerous Cycst on one of my overies and divarticulitous (pockets in my colon). The OB at the ER recommended that I have the IUD placed immediately until the doctor could find out if I do have cancer or not. They still haven't found out and I might be pregnant. I can't even go to work with out throwing up. Someone please help me. How am I going to tell my husband that I got pregnant while visiting him on vacation (taking care of 2 grandmas 1200 miles from home) I have my little boy with me but I'm so tired all the time I need help.

I too have had my Minera for 4 yrs and recently I do feel pregnant. I did have some spotting in the beginning but not since in years; and all of a sudden I've spotted this week. After reading that pregnancy is possible I am getting a test tomorrow, now that I have read the posts about how dangerous pregnancy with IUD can be! At first I didn't even bat an eye at the varied symptoms, but lately I just can't ignore them anymore! After all, I have been pregnant before and that's the only time in my life I can remember feeling sick & hungry at the same time... until recently! Yikes!

It's possible. My aunt over two decades ago had a tubal pregnancy and got an hysterectonmy. Her fiancé and her were delighted until they found out it was tubal. I don't know what she was thinking about when she knew she had the IUD still there. Anyway, they wound up breaking up because she wanted him to be able to have children.

I came to this site because I have Mirena. The reason why I have not gotten pregnant is because I had been celibate. I don't think any birth control could control me from getting pregnant.

Anyway, one time and I'm having symptoms. Things taste different. Can barely stay away at work. Nauseated after eating. Breasts swollen. Squeezed the nipple and out came milk. (sigh) Told my boyfriend to get an EPT. I just lost my job so I'm temping making 6 dollars less an hour. Facing eviction. Denied unemployment. Enough of the crying.

Anyway, I know what being pregnant feels like. Will get a blood test now after speaking with... I mean reading all of your responses.

I'm 42, diabetic, too many risks to have a baby with IUD, etc.

But everything will be all right.

    Hi,
I don`t really have an answer for you but I`m in a similar situation. I have suspected pregnancy for 4 months now. But every test I have taken come back negative, even a blood test ( however I just found out that some meds can reduce the hormones) Anyway I not only feel pregnant and have all the symptoms of my previouse 2 pregnacys I also have a belly that's getting bigger every month. I can barely fit into jeans that sliped down 3 or 4 month ago. My growth is all in the frount of my belly, I`m thin everywhere else. I just started gaining weight. Also I have a line forming down my lower belly, my belly botton is poping out and I`m even feeling movement. It mostly happends when there are loud unfamilar noises, I ajdust my clothes or scratch my belly. I know what kicking feels like and it just doesn`t feel like gas. I don`t what to think and its driving me crazy.. espisally now. I was a week late for my period ( still been getting periods) then I had my iud removed, I just wanted it out. That day I got a terrible stomach ach in my upper abdoman.. the next day I started bleeding, now its very heavy ( soaking a reg tampon every two hours) but I`m still feeling movement and having no pain..
I do know it is very possible to become pregnant with a IUD, I know two people in fact, and they gave birth to healthy babies.. one even left her iud in the whole time. One girl ( unsure if she used birth control) had her period for 5-6 months and got negative results on pregnancy tests.. untill finally it was confirmed. I hope everything works out for you, my gyno thinks I`m crazy but its seems as thought I`m really not.

One more thing that, my ultrasound said that the Iud was very close to the uterus (not sure this word right , I mean the baby), it like touching... The doctor said the baby was healthy ,it was OK. My case was steel called :"high risk ",that is the thing I worry about .
