Horrible urine smell from Bathtub Drain
Our guest bath has had a strong urine smell for some time now and we can't get rid of it. The plumber checked our toilet seal and then snaked the bathtub drain for us, but that didn't work. I then poured a gallon of bleach, let it soak overnight and chased it with two huge pots of boiling water. Tried this 3 or 4 times. The smell returned the next day. I then tried baking soda and vinegar. Used two gallons and a huge box of baking soda. The smell went away for a day. It's back and coming through the sinks now too. It's getting worse. The plumbers say there is nothing they can do for us short of a $2500 dig under our house to replace pipes. Help!

That doesn't sound like anything that replacing underground pipes would cure. When the plumber snaked the tub did he remove the chrome trip lever face plate and snake from there? Do you hear any gurgles or bubbles when you drain or flush? Back to you, Tom

Tom, Yes. The plumber snaked from the chrome plate area. There are no gurgles and the snake came up clean. I even tried filling the bath and sinks with water and draining them at the same time. No bubbles, no gurgles. The drain works really well. The odor is really strong now. I put duct tape over the bathtub drain but the smell is now coming through the sinks. My wife says she has smelled it in our master bath as well, but not as strong. She smells things way before I do.
