    Hot Water Heater problems
    Hello Everyone~

My electric hot water heater is leaking from the relief valve. Not dripping, but like a tap turned on. And this only happens when the power is on to it. When the power to it is off, and the water is cold, it doesn't leak. Otherwise it appears to work fine.

Any experienced input would be very helpful. I'd like to fix this problem if possible, since I really can't afford a new one.

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

    Sincerely, Suni

Do you know if your home has a back flow preventer? This could be installed outside by the city. This would not allow the heated water to expand back into the main. If this is your situation you would need to install an expansion tank. You could have a bad relief valve but less likely. If you want to take the chance the relief valve is about $20 and not very difficulty to replace. Write back if you are unsure of how to replace the valve.

It is likely that the temperature is too high. Replace the t & p and keep the temperature at around 125
