Disconnecting cast iron pipes. Neo gasket
I am installing a bath and shower. The bathroom didin't have a bath install. The shower drains into the main 4" drain (cast iron), which also services the toilet. I want to run the bath and shower drain inline to the main drain. I am having a problem with removing the cast iron section from the shower to the main. I can get the pipe to twist but can't get it to come out. There is a rubber neo. Gasket on all intersections. How can I remove the gasket for removal of pipe. I plan to use PVC from bath and shower into cast iron drain

Hey Cliff, We put our cast iron in with neoprene gaskets back in the 70's. We twisted and pulled out to get them apart. For the stubborn ones, such as yours, we made a half hitch on the pipe, jammed a shovel in the ground and wrapped the end of the rope arounf the handle near the bottom. We could the lever it out in stages. You want to connect the bath/shower direct to the main drain? Code forbids that you discharge a major fixture, (like your toilet) past a unvented minor one,(like your bath). If you have a lavatory,(sink) in the area that's vented you can connect to that drain line and be safe. If you connect the bath direct rhe discharge from the toilet can pull liquid out of the bath trap and let sewer gas escape. Sewer gas is hazardous to your heath and explosive..
