    Drain pipe under slab
When I run water in the kitchen a small puddle of water forms in the basement in 2 places. One place has formed a small hole in the basement slab, the other is a small crack. The hole is wet/muddy. I had a plumber auger out the drain line (which goes under the concrete slab) about 9 months ago. He fixed the clog. When asked about the hole that had formed, he expresed no concern at all. Now the formation of water has returned which tells me that the clog has returned also (small amount of water in the basement forms occurs only when the kitchen facet is running). Tomorrow I am buying a mototrized auger and I will chase the line to unclog it. My real concern is the possibility that I have a drain line leak under the slab, and the effect that may have on the foundation. The house was built in 1938. Any advice?

    Thanks Rick J.

    Hey Rick,

I certainly sounds like you have a opening,(crack?) in the drain line under the slab. The problem with leaks of that nature is that they don't always expose themselves next to the break. Water, like electricity, will always seek the path of least resistance. This opening has got to be in the upper section of the pipe since it only occurs when the line is clogged and backs up. You can snake the line and hope for the best, like your plumber did, or you can open up the slab and repair the drain line. Shame on your plumber for not taking this more seriously. Good luck, Tom
