Last night, while the washing machine was on its rinse cycle, water began backing up through both sides of the kitchen sink.. The water was gray/ black.

I assume that this has not been happening each time. You have a blockage, or at least an obstruction, in your drain after the washing machine. Plunging and Draino aren't going to help but rodding should. Rod from where the washer drains into the main. Rod 20 feet down the drain and flush with plenty of water. If you don't have the time/equipment then call a plumber. They do this all of the time.

The sink allows grease to go down, the washer allows lint. When they meet they coat your pipes and soon clog. Have it snaked out at leat enough to get out of the house.

If you decide to hire it done, go with a specialist such as Roto-Router. Rental places have drain augers too.

If you decide to have it done, go to the phone book and see who has the full page ads. Hire those guys and you will pay the highest rate possible. A full page ad means a lot of overhead and higher rates. You can expect to pay from $125.00 up to 600.00 for this job, depending solely on the company. It should only take an hour to clear the drain with the proper equipment.

I have a new washer, water backs up and runs in the floor,I know its stopped up, the line is stopped up

I have a similar problem.

Except I just snaked the pipes from the roof and from the crawl space and not clogs. The problem still persists.

When the washing machine drains it starts making a really loud noise in the pipes and then the washing machine drain backs up. Because of this, a couple of months ago, I installed a closed system on the washing machine drain. Now no overflow at the drain but it backs up into the sink.

Is it possible the pipe just doesn't have enough capacity to carry this much water? Or could it be some kind of vacuum forming?
