Hi, All!

My daughter just called and said that there's a bird in my home. She wondered how it got in. I've had them in there previously. I'm house and dog sitting, so can't really come to the rescue. She thinks that it's a blackbird or a raven. It presently is in the room where the back door is.

I know that they've gotten in because of a hole in the bottom of the stack (chimney) in the basement. The hole keeps getting bigger because of the house shifting.

I know about closing doors, opening windows and doors, etc.

Do you have any creative ideas about how to get them out without killing them, please?

Maybe a fishnet? It might scare it a bit but if she catches it she could let it loose outside.

My daughter asked about a fishnet. But, I don't have one. My daughter is very creative, though! She just called again and said that she used a sweater to capture it and set it free, outside unharmed .

However, it would still be good to see what other creative ideas people have here, even though our problem is solved. I don't think that there's another thread on this site about this subject.

No problem, nice to know the bird was unharmed. :)

Ohso linked to my tried and true method, except I put the porch light on and darken the entire house. A leaf broom makes a really good tool to chase the bird out with. It's light but very large.
