My 20 year old son won't work
My 20 year old son graduated from high school in 2005. He attended a 4 year school for 1 semester and dropped out. He went to a county college for 1 semester and didn't attend. He won't work or go to school. He sleeps all day, I mean all day, he is waking up at 4 or 5pm in the evening. He is up or out all night. I know he smokes pot and drinks but doesn't do any other drugs.

He has had 4 or 5 jobs in 2 years quitting all of them and keeping them no more than a few months.

He doesn't talk to me and his father has moved an hour away and doesn't seem to care much. He feels his parenting is over once they turn 18 years old.

My question is, "Should I tell him to find another place to live if he doesn't get a job or go to school"? I am not helping him at all by allowing this kid to continue doing what he's doing. He doesn't talk to me and does what he wants. His father says he doesn't have room for him.

    Please advise

This comes under the heading of tough love. Put a lock on the refrigerator and give him a time to either get a job and start paying rent or to find his own place.

Sandy, On getting a job, set a time frame or he may come up with tomorrow I will, then tomorrow turns into next month, next month turns into next year. I would telll him starting tomorrow he would get up and get out and start putting in job applications.Tell him that when he gets that job, that he can't quit it until he has another one to replace it. I would also charge him rent even if only 25 dollars a week. I would tell him all of this today. Also I would give him a time limit on when I expected him to have a job. No more free rides, tape it on your dresser mirror and stick to it. Good Luck
