Can a pharmacist ask a patient why they are taking a medication?
Can a pharmacist ask a patient why they are taking a medication and deny a medication based on that discussion? Or, do they need to talk to the Physician.

I have been asked that question before. Having nothing to hide I told the pharmacist. Come to find out that the pharmacist knew that there was a cheaper alternative to the medication prescribed for my specific condition.

J9 beat me to it - did the Pharmacist totally refuse OR did the Pharmacist suggest an alternative?

I do remember one occasion when my late husband had a rather unstable customer and refused to fill a prescription (based on her other prescription drugs) without discussing the new prescription and history with her Doctor. It ended up that the Doctor had no idea what other medications she was taking.

    Hello c:

There's been a lot of discussion on this very issue recently, however I don't know if there were laws passed because of it. They'd be LOCAL state laws, though, if any were passed. Where do you live?

I should have added that I am not aware of any Laws in either direction on this issue - certainly not in NY.
