Check Returned NSF, Did everything!
Hello, I am from MO, I asked this question before on this board and got very helpful answers but I am now at a loss, Back in Dec, 2006, I paid a person's power bill via the internet as their power was going to be shut off, with the understanding that I was to be paid back in full ($160.00) in one months time, this person did pay me half ($80.00), and after 6 months they finally paid me with a check for the other $80, well that check bounced, returned as NSF, I called the bank, no funds in the account, I did everything mentioned when I posted this before, first I contacted the county prosecuting attorney and they informed me that because the check was not handed to me personally by the check writer they could not do anything about it, I called the collection agency, they informed me that because I did not have the check writers SS number and birthday they could not help me, they said I could take them to small claims court, but these people are out of state and have also moved, I did send an address correction request, but have not received that back, but to go to small claims would cost me over $30 with no guarantee that I can retrieve the money owed, so in other words I could be out not only the $80, but also the $30 for small claims court. Does anyone know of anything else I can do with no cost to me, or am I just out of luck on this one, and chalk it up to lesson learned, not to help a person out in need. Thanks, Blazingguns.
