Enlisting in the Army in your 30's
My best friend is 37 years old. She found a job with the Army as an Administrative Specialist. Her only concern is whether she can manage basic training. What are others thoughts on her age and what she will experience should she enlist.

    Thank you.

The Army will give her an extensive physical exam. But it is what's between the ears that counts. My guess is, she will get some ribbing about her age. But she could retire at age 57, so what the heck? Best course: Check with the Air Force, first.

The maximum age to enlist in the Air Force and Marine Corps remains 27, with some exceptions in the Marines for individuals up to 29 years old. The Navy's maximum is age 35.The Army ? 42

Go, the Army now has stress cards that you can use if you are feeling stressed. Its not the old army. I was in the Navy for 4 years and regret not going 16 more and retiring. I work now on Ft. Hood and see all the people same age as me working on post as civilians getting the same pay as I do AND a retirement check.

Yes, she did say the cut off age for the Army was 42. I suppose that is the reason for her urgency. She is quite intelligent. She was mostly concerned about whether she could keep up with all the young enlistee's, and whether they would razz her for being so "old". Funny to think that 37 is considered old.

If she is healthy, age is a state of mind.

Thank you ALL so much for your help. I will pass these posts onto her and I will certainly encourage her the best that I can. She has already begun a rigorous exercise program, so it looks like she will be on her way soon. Thanks again to ALL of you for your help and encouragement.
