I've dealt with sleep paralysis ever since I was a kid. As I got older, the "attacks" became more painful, I would feel actual physical pain and could not move or speak. About a few months ago, I could feel myself having little convulsions as I was having this painful sleep paralysis. I would only get the excessive shaking and convulsions in my head as the sleep paralysis pain was on other parts of my body. It is a bit freaky having my body still, in terrible pain, all while my head is having convulsing ticks and shaking. Usually I wake up dizzy from these little spells. I've never had these until recently and would like to know if anyone knows anything about this subject that could explain what it could be. I guess extra information would be that I could also have diabetes. I'm not 100% sure on that, but lately have been having the symptoms and it runs violently in my family. I didn't know if that could also be a reason. Please let me know if this is dangerous or if I should go to the hospital or if it's just nothing, Thanks

I don't see a connection between your symptoms and diabetes, but like diabetes it is hereditary. Sleep paralysis is usually associated with narcolepsy (frequent, sometimes involuntary naps), but not exactly proven to be related. I haven't heard of painful episodes but that depends on what your limbs are going through before it strikes.

This condition can be controlled with medication, so I suggest you have a good sit down with your doctor and discuss your options soon.

But sleep paralysis normally is not connected to seizures, but also should have nothing to do with diabetes. The issue I see is that there is not pain, there is fear often, but not pain.

And going to see a doctor ( not hospital) to look into your sleep disorder may be the first step.

Hello! I had the same painful feeling in my head when I have PS.TODAY ,WHEN I WAS SLEEPING I felt excruciating pain in my head.I tried to wake up but I couldn't move.pain was getting worst,I felt my head could explosion and I could die from the pain.my 6 years old son was watching cartoon in the room where I was and I called he's name to wake me up,he came to me and held my hand but I couldn't see his physical body just felt his little hand and heard his voice then I woke up .I'm 100 percent sure and every thing is clear to me .After I woke up I felt my body was very heavy and I was still feeling extremely pain had happen to me when I was SP.BUT I didn't feel that much pain while I was paralysis sleeping. Aftere every thing got normal I asked my 6 years old son,"Did I CALL YOUR NAME WHEN I WAS SLEEPING," HIS ANSWER WAS NO!
I didn't worried before when I had SP 15 years ago .I just scared of it and it was with out pain so, I used to feel normal about SP,But after 4 times painful SP I am rely don't want and worry about this.
