I have a college ring that was made when the price of gold was at $35. With today's value over $900, does my ring have much value?
Thanks for any help with this!

If it is solid gold, yes, the price now is about $l000. An ounce.
Tick
Most school rings are 10k. 10k gold is actually 40 percent pure gold mixed with alloys, so when you want to know what its worth you do this. Say you have 5 grams of 10k gold. Divide 32 grams (Thats how many grams are in a ounce)from the gold value on the market (Kitco - Gold Precious Metals - Buy Gold Sell Gold, Silver, Platinum - Charts, Graphs, Prices, Quotes, Gold Stocks, Mining Stocks, bullion dealers ) Say today is 900 dollars a ounce. 900/32=$28 a gram. Now take 28 x .60(percent of alloys in 10k)=$16.8 . Subtract 16.8 from 28= $11.2 a gram is the true value of 10k which are gold for 5 grams would be worth $56 today.
14k is 58.5 percent pure gold
18k is 78.5 percent pure gold.
Do the same steps for each of these but change the percentage of gold for each when calculating.
Your ring is technically worth more, but you have to adjust for inflation so it's possible it's not worth as much you expect.
But anyway, if you wanted to sell it you should see a decent amount for it. Use this scrap gold calculator to figure out how much
My advice is to first try selling it on eBay to a collector ( if it's in tip top condition). Believe me they're out there. I once sold a boston univ men's ring ( metal detector find ) at 23g for over $400. Give it a try.
You can try selling it in a pawn shop or sell it online.
Don't know how to sell online? Go for Cash4Gold.com or Cashforgoldusa.com where you can get cash for selling your jewelry.
Of course it will! You just have to check how pure the gold is etc. If it's pure gold, you should definitely look to sell it, all companies vow to give you the best price for gold but only a few do, so shop around before you make any decisions!
Have you tried to get a price from We Buy Jewellery they are not a scrap gold dealer but they specialise in antique jewellery.
