Furnace blower will not come on unless I spin the fan blades.
I have an old GE electric furnace. When I try to turn on the air conditioning the outside fan works but the furnace does not come on. I went downstairs and I could hear that power was reaching the furnace so I turned off the power at the circuit breaker, and then turned it back on and nothing happened. I turned off the circuit breaker again to check and see if the fan blades were stuck and I was able to spin them freely. I decided to try spinning the blades and turning the circuit breaker back on and it worked, however it shut off again in about thirty minutes. I tried testing the heat and it worked under the same conditions and for the same length of time.

It could just be the fan motor capacitor is defective but it is also possible the motor itself is going bad.

I have ordered a new capacitor, will report back once I have installed it. Thanks for the information.
