I have a 1996 Trane xe1100 heat pump. Running the air conditioner, the unit has been running fine for the last week. Then last night it stopped cooling, I went to investigate and could here the compressor humming but no fan was running(I had the fan replaced last fall due to bad bearings). I went to the homes main breaker box to find that the compressor breaker was tripped,I reset it and turned the ac back on and the same breaker tripped immediately. Could it be a faulty breaker or a bad compressor only being 15 years old> I certainly hope its not the latter.
