    Wiring a new furnace
I had a furnace installed in my home (new construction) and am doing the wiring myself. I know that I need a fuseable switch at the furnace but where and how does the transformer get connected for the thermostat? Never wired a furnace before.

The fusible link needs to be mounted on the ceiling directly above the burner. If for some reason you have a very high ceiling , do not exceed 8 feet above the burner.

The transformer needs 120 volts on the primary side, the black and white. The secondary side ,24 volts at the screw terminals will feed the control circuit. The furnace and thermostat will have wiring diagrams to show exactly how the control circuit is wired.

Be sure to wire the furnace correctly, paying attention to any safety switches in boththe 120 volt and 24 volt circuits.

Fairly dangerous task you are tackling, wiring a furnace. I assume you have a permit from the local building official. Here in Maine, even thou I am a master electrician, I am not allowed to wire a furnace completely, only bring the feed to it. From there a licensed burner tech must wire the remaining system.

Thanks tkrussell, I just checked with my HVAC contractor and they told me that they would be the ones making the connection. I just need to supply the feed. In MT, as long as it is your primary residence you are allowed to do your own electrical system as long as it is inspected. Thanks again.

OK that is what I was hoping to hear.Thanx for confirming the permit issue, and that the contractor will wire the furnace. You will sleep safely.
