This is an all electric mobile home that has an outside air conditioner with heating system. It is blowing cold air when the heat is turned on at the thermoniter.

Your capacitor or a relay may need replaced. Or it could be the contactor that went. All the components need to be properly checked to see just which one failed.

As you well know HVAC, a/c and heating problems need to be ferreted out by simple trial and error. If it's not this part, then it's that part. You keep testing until you find the part that failed or is failing.

I hate the trial and error type of service person. So much valuable time is wasted using that technique. A good service person on site can usually find a problem in less than 5-10 minutes and if there performance is less than that it is time to find a new person to service your equipment. By trial and error method many good parts are replaced driving up the customer’s bill and giving the HVAC industry a bad name. Just about anyone can keep replacing parts until the unit works so I do not classify them as a service person but just a no nothing part replacement specialist. LOL

At the university I always stress in class that you never just replace a part unless you know it is defective. I want to educate the current and future service persons the correct way to repair a problem without causing another problem along the way.

I had the same problem and called a repair man and when I turned on the heat I noticd the air conditioner outside was running also, it ended up being my thermastat I had put in a year earlier, it was a programmable one and was faulty, ended up putting the old one back on and works fine.

How important is it to change the air filter for an air conditioner/heater combo?
