I just turned 19 not too long ago, and my health insurance expired a couple of days ago. I used the insurance to get birth control, that my mom doesn't know about. My insurance was also dependent on my mom's. I heard somewhere that once someone turns 19, they can no longer be signed with their parents for insurance. Is this true? Does that mean I will have to pay for my own insurance? Also, I'm a student, so does that give me somewhat of an advantage?
Anyway, any help would be really appreciated.

Most will depend up on the terms of your moms policy, Normally in the US, you are allowed to be a dependent on your parents insurance though 21 to 23 if you are a FULL time student. Your mom needs to ask her insurance agent if you are going to still be covered ( most likely she is paying a extra premuium for you to be covered.. If you are not a full time student, the coverage normally ends at 18.

Now if the entire policy expired a few days ago ( from non payment or other reason it was cancelled) then no after insurance expires it is no longer in effect.

So you need to talk to your mom, who may need to talk to her insurance agent for the correct info.

My insurance company would only cover my son as long as he was in college up to age 25.

But I recently saw a notice from them saying that they were covering children living at home and/or in college, up to age 25. I don't know if it was just that company or if some regulatory agency was setting the standard. We are no longer affected so I didn't check any further.
