    Dr threatening
I have a question concerning my son's new endocrinologist in Illinois. My son is 19, has type1 diabetes for 8 yrs and is educated in his care. His Dr retired and we were appointed a young Dr. This Dr is insulting, degrading in his comments and asks questions not related to his diabetes and my son and husband are very disappointed in his care. My son simply does not like Dr and we are limited in our area to our choices. He has had two appt with this Dr, and was unable to attend his third due to a college exam. My son has had his drivers license revoked for 3 months due to moving violations. He has a school and work permit which also allows him to go to the pharmacy and Dr appt. In order to get the medical care on his permit, his nurse sign a form verifying that my son has diabetes and is in the care of this Dr. Today we received a fax from the Dr noting that if our son does not attend his next appointment, he would call the state and report that he is not taking care of his health. Can a Dr threaten you if you do not attend an appointment? :(

If possible, your son should find a different doctor. Even if he has to pay out-of-pocket, this would be better than dealing with what sounds like antagonism. I don't know if this doctor can get your son in trouble, but he is not providing "care."

This is a choice only your son can make, as a adult we often have to deal with doctors we may or may not like, And we have to be direct with them back and tell them what we want and how it is going to be done.
