Does hair dye cause hair loss?
    Hi,

I just wonder if hair dye causes a hair loss. My wife dyed her hair tow months ago and over the last three weeks she is having a hair loss. She went to see a doctor and all the blood test were fine. She was given some tablets and a shampoo to use a twice a week to wash her hair. Could anyone please give me more advice on what my wife should do and whether hair dye can cause hair loss. And if yes why it took sometime, about a month a half before her hair started to fall.

    Thanks a lot.

I have not any experience about this that the dye causes hair loss or not. But I read on a site that is Hiar loss treatment information provider that caustic hair dyes, straighteners, and other products can certainly cause inflammation of the scalp and result in hair loss.

I dyed my hair about 3 months ago, and the colour is beginning to fade and I want to dye it again to get that rich colour back, but when I first dyed my hair it was a brown with a hint of red in it, and I hated so I dyed it again the next day, and I kept that colour for 3 months. Please tell me if its OK to dye my hair again. X x thankx

Yes, hair dye can cause hair loss because it weakens the hair follicles. Permanent hair color bleaches the natural hair color so that the color can absorb into the hair shaft, and once this happens, the hair become porous. Porous hair is already considered to be damaged hair, and once this happens, the hair structure is damaged. Hair dye also dries out the hair, stripping it off its natural oils. Also, if your wife straightens her hair, that also can cause damage and hair loss. I recommend not using hair dyes, but instead, using body art quality henna (Lawsonia Inermis), or senna (Cassia Obovata) for healthy hair. Good luck!

This will happen... you will not lose all of your hair. I dyed my hair black for 5 months now. I shed lots of hair but no one notices! It will get a little dry so you buy a certain shampoo and conditioner. I use TREseme... they have different types of products and u will find it eventually. Don't freak out about it and just go with it :)

Yes it can. Anything harmful to your hair can cause hair loss, although it seems that your wife has lost a lot of hair if it is noticeable, so I do not think it is from dying (which would not be noticeable to others) It may just be from age, or genetics.

A years ago I suffered a massive hair loss due to a combination of regular hair dyeing and emotional stress. 90% of my hair fell out within 6 month. By the 7th month, baby hair started to show up. And now, 15 months later (including the initial 6 months hair loss time), I have about 90% of hair back, albeit short. It took so long to grow back. I wore hats and wigs for about 5 months. I still dye to cover grey hair, but much less frequently. Good luck to you all.

Yes, I dyed my hair for over 6 months before I started having small circular bald patches. I wasn't sure at first it was hair dye so I kept dying my but then more a more patches appeared. I then stopped using the commercial brand and now using the hypoallergenic brand and now most all the patches are gone. There are many people who will deny hair dye as the cause so don't believe them. Tell your wife stop using the commercial hair dye. Good luck.
