Good roof shingle price per square?
It's been awhile since I called around. I'm in central Ohio and am told a good price for 25 year 3-tab is $37 per square (material only). Does that sound good or should I keep calling.

(I would not be buying in bulk... probably buying 14-20 squares at a time once every other month or so.)

    Thanks!

Rick, according to what I have found, that price is not unreasonable. $30 -$60 is the range. Please read this link. It contains useful info:

Thanks Ruby. Yes, informative but that range includes the lower end 10-20 year stuff.

I'm trying to narrow down for 25 year.

I used to have a good regional price guide in my favorites but now for the life of me I can't find it :(

I understand what you are saying Rick but that price range includes all, lower and higher durability range of 10-20, 25-30. Initially when I saw your price quote I thought it was a bit high. But, I haven't been involved with purchasing those kind of shingles in a while.

In any event, I will make another attempt to find out. I will look around on line. I also have friends who are still in the business. If I can't turn anything else up, I am sure BallengerB or someone else will stop by to give you their opinions.

My Menards flyer lists $38.37 a square for 25 year shingles. Last time I bought any, I paid a little more for ''free'' roof top deliver. My old body and old truck weren't nearly as old then as now, but didn't think I should abuse them to save a few bucks.

They are getting ready to take a jump in price my contact at the lumber yard tells me, they went up some this week ( price increase from manufactor) and they said it looks like it will be going up again

But yes a good 25 year is around that 35 dollar price, normally around here.

Rick I am In Florida and the average price per sq for three tabs starting this month is any where from 50 to 59 per sq and 30 year arch shingles are anywhere from 60 to 69 per sq depending on brand due to petro increases.I have still found some 30 year architectural shingles as much as 54 per sq on colors that where in stock before price increase though

The 4 major manufactures have published 2 price increase per month through Sept. after that it will be retail price for everyone. I see it as high as $80.00 sq by the end of the year for 20 year.

Yes we've seen those big hikes. Currently the going rate (contractor price) in my area for 30 year dimensional is $60-$65 :(

I have worked at Lowe's for 11+ years. Asphalt roofing can run from $43 to $70 per square depending on warranty length. 25 year 3 tab are now going for $50/square. 30# felt is $10/square ($5 for 15#). Button caps, roofing nails, drip edge and vally flashing would still need to be figured but these are the small portion of the total cost. Warranty ranges from 20 to 30 years at these price ranges.

As of March 23, 2011 the price of architectural roofing shingles are closing in at 95-110 per square for 30 year archs.. It really burns me how everything boils down to the price of oil. Roofing shingles are a oil based product.

Yeah, I hear you sidingpro. I'm seeing the same increases here in the midwest.

I just checked the Lowe's here in Central Ill. Owen Corning 30 year dimensional shingles are $64.71 per square. Still priced at an affordable level. A price increase has not happened - yet. Regular 3 tabs are $54.24 per square.

Those are good prices Tommy.. But, when it comes to purchasing shingles from big box chains such as home cheapo or blowes, they're often times referred to as "second-tier class." Meaning they're made the cheapest possible and sacrifice quality.

It's nuts rick! I can't stand it any longer. I install quite a few roofs per month and it fluctuates insanely on a daily basis.
