Recently I have found an infestation of bugs that I can not identify.

They are living in my couch. They are brown or dark brown kind of reddish brown for some. They look like giant mites or a cross between a flea, a tick and a those spiders with huge abdomans and all their legs close to the head.

I suppose if you looked at the hermit crab with the huge shell and the tiny legs up front and you changed it to look brown and shiny, then it would be close.

Anyway, they won't go away... I would really like to know what they are. They crawl really slow, like I said they look like giant mites, but mites aren't supposed to be that big so please help.

Sounds as if it could be any one of the following:

European Swallow Bug Oeciacus hirundinus (Jenyns)
Chimney Swift Bug Cimexopis nyctalis List

Your main concern should be your health.
Mites and ticks are small arachnids that are parasites living on the blood and tissue fluid of other animals. They can occasionally transmit disease

If the infestation doesn't respond to regular insecticidal treatment get rid of the couch.

:eek: I have recently found an infestation of bugs living in my couch as well but they look like lice bugs with shorter legs and they move a lot faster. I only see them around the house once in a blue moon but there are a lot in the folds of my couch. I also have an infestation of these little tiny black bugs that look like mini beetles. They are mainly around the windows and they don't try to fly away if you pick them up. A few people nicknamed them dumb bugs. I was wondering what these two types of bugs are.

Clover mites are very tiny arachnids that live and reproduce outdoors, but are frequently encountered as a household pest in springtime and early summer in Alaska when they migrate into dwellings by mistake.
DESCRIPTION: Clover mites are only 1/64th inch long, soft, oval, and flattened from top to bottom. They vary in color from rusty brown to dark red. A distinguishing characteristic is the very long pair of front legs that extend forward like antennae as the mites crawl.

DAMAGE: Clover mites are harmless. They cannot bite or sting; they do not infest stored foods; they cannot attack the house structure and furnishings. They are an annoyance and nuisance because of their presence and tremendous numbers. Clover mites reproduce outdoors. Every mite seen indoors has wandered in from outside.
