    Light switches
Here is a strange one. I am visiting my father, and he recently replaced an outlet in one bedroom and now the light switch no longer works. He didn't touch the switch at all. Here is the really odd part... now the same problem is in the adjoining bedroom. However, they are on different circuits, and he had not touched either the outlet or the switch in the adjoining room at all. I have looked at the new outlet he installed, and it is exactly the same as the other outlets in the house that do work. Any ideas?

Did the switch control the outlet? If so, between the two brass screws on the outlet is a small jumper that needs to be removed, usually with a small screwdriver prying it out.

Connecting the wires is different for the switch to control the outlet, how were they connected?
